Poetry

In Chile with Huge Experience's English teacher Scott Wooten told his student we would have a poetry reading night and all his English students were to have a poem or short story to present. After hearing a couple of students complaining about how much they hated to write poetry I asked myself, "how bad could it be?" I decided to get involved and write a poem myself to read at the Huge Experience's poetry night. I was amazed at how much fun writing a poem could be. This is my poem, keep in mind that the poem has some inside jokes and things that would only make since if you were traveling, living, schooling, and kayaking with each other every day for seven weeks straight. Enjoy.

HUGE by: Jason Aytes

Books, kayak and passport in hand
Traveling abroad to distant lands
Kayaking gypsies moving through the countryside
Welcome to the Huge Experiences lifestyle ride

The feeling of going huge I can't explain
You'll have to ask Matt the kid from Maine
He's a good boater and gives good tips
He'll tell you about the time he kissed Em on the lips

Going huge to Connor is simple logic
Just watch him throw down in his shiny new project
Balancing on skis and racing down ice
Connor enjoys a rush and rolling the dice

Patrick goes huge with the ladies by being a mack
He realizes she has a boyfriend and quickly calls "all back"
Jake learned to kayak in Ohiopyle
This is obvious with his smooth Snyder Brother's paddling style

Andy is throwing down in his Vision 44
Always willing to sleep on the floor
Andy enjoys kayaking and playing in his band
He's always willing to give a helping hand

Here's a riddle, wanna play the game
When this kid throws blunts you can read his name
Another hint, he's the judo killer
Of course I'm talking about Chris Miller

Dilliard wants to give the ladies a big show
There's only one problem, No ablo
Andrew will tell you that the ladies are keen
Come on dude she's only thirteen

Alex goes huge when he loops
He has the world's smelliest poops
So smart and school comes easy
We all wish his bum was a little less breezy

Christina has more energy than anyone I know
Always willing to help, always on the go
In her boat or on her skis
Look out boys she'll beat you with ease

Coming from Seattle
Spiegal loves a War of World Craft Battle
David you throw huge flatwater loops, how about a tip
"All my power comes from the peach fuzz on my upper lip"

Samantha, our Chilean friend
Always willing to help until days end
In the game Mafia you can't be trusted
You have an innocent smile but now your busted

Nano, the hardest worker in the group
Making homemade breads, deserts and chicken bone soup
Nano is a one man band and a cook crew
From all of us at Huge - Nano, "Thank You"

Mark is our new teacher of Math
FYI: He doesn't go to bed without a bath
He's away from Debbie Sue his little dear
I know you miss her but we're glad you are here

Hughes goes big in kayaking and frisbee
Wrestle him and you'll end up dizzy
Don't cross David on the ultimate field
Unless you carry a protective shield

Are you guys ready for another mystery?
Who's your favorite professor of history
Carla loves Chile's beautiful lakes
And the fact: there are no poisonous snakes

Scott has only one huge wish
That Necky made a bigger Orbit Fish
Scott you need a kayak the size of a bus
Don't neglect your old buddy Gus

Going huge is hard to explain
It's getting worked and feeling no pain
Climbing a tree you know is too high
Setting goals and aiming for the sky

Going huge is about having fear and not showing it
Seeing your line and not blowing it
Above the rapid I splash water on my face
Breathe in- Breathe out visioning style and grace

Do I have fear? of course
The goal is to overcome the source
Fear is a learned emotion not a trait
Like a Budhist monk, I want in the flow state

A Huge Experience to each his own
For me it's all about being in the zone
Freestyle is awesome and I'll never quit
But to be honest going huge is all about running the #$%#!
